For example, a vendor uses false friends, that is a pair of words in two different languages which look or sound the same but have two completely different meanings, instead of a word closest to the source word's actual meaning.
- Accuracy: An imprecise but not necessarily incorrect translation. For example, a vendor uses the word "wet" when the source word's most accurate translation is "humid."
- Consistency: Variations in the translation of the same source word or phrase. For example, a vendor translates one source word as both "disconnect" and "unplug" in the same document.
- Country Standards: A translation which ignores regional differences in the language. For example, a vendor translates the source word as "bonnet" and not "hood" when the target language is English, EN-US.
- Language: A grammatical mistake. For example, a vendor translates a phrase as "Your welcome" and not "You're welcome".
- Style: Incorrect register. For example, a vendor uses slang and idioms in the translation of a formal document.
- Terminology: The incorrect use of specialized vocabulary. For example, the vendor does not correctly translate a technical word for a computer operation.
